This Beautiful World...

Those who know me, know that Im not much of a warm weather guy.  I prefer the cold, I like to bundle up in jeans and a nice comfy sweater, maybe a good coat.  Im an anomaly that loves the chill in the air, the feeling of the cold air penetrating your lungs, the crisp on your ears and fingers.  I love the smell of cold, the way my body gets stingingly warm as the blood returns to my extremities.  And I love the snow, to see it fall, to watch it cover the earth, to hide the death and and grayness that fall brings, and cover it all with a pure white blanket.

But I must say, that today was beautiful here in Gilbert, Az.  I feel that so few days are beautiful here (yes, bitter, I know).  But the sun was shining, it wasn't too hot, 85 degrees, nice cool breeze.  I lay out on the grass (which is still alive for another week or so) and looked up at a bright blue sky.  For a moment, I felt so comfortable, so cared for, so blessed.  Especially in the light of how God has been working in my life and my heart lately.  Breaking my heart over things in this world that aren't right.  The AIDS epidemic that I will be witnessing first hand in South Africa in just a few months, the millions of little girls who are trafficked into sexual slavery yearly, the millions of homeless, abused, and destitute here in the U.S. seemed so far away for a moment.

But it is not my call in life to go about forgetting about those things.  It is my duty to be constantly mindful, and ever dutiful and committed to changing these things.  But even though this world is broken, and not the way it was intended to be, we still get moments, places, people, glimpses, of the goodness of God.  For He is good, and His mercy endures forever.  May it be now, and always.  Thank you God for this beautiful world.  May it ever be my desire and mission to see it returned to your goodness, for your glory.  Amen.

Love is Life.

I have this picture as my desktop background right now, and I've been staring at it for about 20 minutes lost in thought about my upcoming message on sunday for High School.  I took this pictue as my wife and I strolled along the beach walk in Newport, RI this past summer.  We were about to pass through this tunnel and I looked up and saw this painted onto the rocks at the tunnels entrance.  And it struck me, love truly is life.

1st John 4:8 & 16 tell us "Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love...Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him."  With out love, it is impossible for us to truly live.  Life may go on, but the true abundant life can only be found in Christ.

How cool it is to find truth and beauty in the simplicity of a moment in time captured in a picture.  After all, a picture is worth a thousand words.
